As soon as we heard that the lovely folk at Colours May Vary (potentially one of the most fabulous shops in the North) were holding a book signing with Felt Mistress and Jonathan Edwards our excite-o-meters hit ten and the date was firmly placed in our HoB diaries. Saturday morning felt like Christmas as we set out for a HoBventure.
If you’ve visited us before then you will already be aware of our admiration of Felt Mistress’s creations so this was a great opportunity for us to see a selection of her work up close and personal. To say we were like kids in a sweet shop (and there were free sweets on offer) is a little bit of an understatement. Colours May Vary house some of the most lovely books and wares we have ever seen so to witness all this eye candy cheekily scattered with Felt Mistress’s characters, and Jonathan’s artwork adorning the walls meant we were falling over ourselves with excitement and had to contain ourselves from drooling too much.
We got our paws on our very own copy of the book, Felt Mistress: Creature Couture, had a chat with the lovely Louise Evans, mainly about Egg Custards and which high street store provided the best, stood agog as we saw Jonathan at work with his pen as he personalised our books by creating monsterised caricatures of us and we also got to have a little chat with the editor of the book Woodrow Pheonix who is a doll.
We were a little blown away at how Jonathan, in a matter of moments, managed to capture us perfectly!
This was the first event that Colours May Vary have organised and they did it splendidly. We cannot wait to keep an eye on what great things this shop will present in the future and it is now a staple stopping ground on any visit to Leeds. This is a wonderful and beautifully laid out store run by a completely charming couple; we highly recommend you pay them a visit.
After all the excitement and the pleasure of meeting truly lovely and talented folk it’s time to sit down with a nice cuppa and completely loose ourselves in the world of Felt Mistress.
